German Government Official Fired Over WikiLeaks Revelations

Reverberations from the WikiLeaks document dump shook up the German government Friday, with the news that the foreign minister's chief of staff was fired after admitting he acted as a mole for U.S. embassy officials.

U.S. State Department cables posted online this week describe Helmut Metzner as "a fly on the wall" who delivered documents to American diplomats last year on the confidential talks to form Angela Merkel's new government, The Guardian reported.

"The staff member of the FDP's federal headquarters, who has admitted his contacts with the US embassy in Berlin, has been relieved of his duties as chief of staff for the FDP chairman," the party said in a statement.

At least one German politician is demanding that American Ambassador Philip Murphy be withdrawn over the scandal.

Navalha

Viva o Brasil !
